Grinnell, Iowa, May 13, 1899.
My dear friend Markham:-
It was a joy to get your word of greeting. Some times I get very tired of heart and rather battle-stricken in the midst of the holy war, and it is only through the fellowship of such spirits as yours that I am able to go on and finish the work given me to do. I have been watching your noble and growing work with profoundest gratitude. You have come just at the right time. God bless you.
Faithfully yours,
George D. Herron
Prof. Edwin Markham,
Oakland, California.
