Dear Comrade Markham,
I am trying to take advantage of your regretted absence at our “meeting”, which lacked only your crowning presence, by working daily on new sonnets, so that, with many more delays, you will find a mountain of ‘em! Emilie is off for Europe to see her parents, but shall return in May. It would be pleasant for Mrs. Markham to find my wife here, and the fine children of Mr. Wack, our neighbor, will then have left the whooping cough far behind them. And May offers some most delightful driving, and more favorable general conditions. May we look forward to you with the apple blossoms!
Cordially,
Ferdinand Earle Jr.
