November 23, 1914.
Mrs. Rose Pastor Stokes,
Caritas Island,
Stamford, Conn.
Dear Little Rose:-
I had no idea when I left New York that I would be back again so soon, but I am just accepting an invitation to address the Twilight Club, 37 East 28th Street, ad[sic] a dinner December 8th.
[Crossed out]
Now I am more than anxious to have you there so that I can report progress on the situation in Oklahoma. I wonder if you and Mr. Stokes would arrange a way to be there. I believe the Twilight Club would be as anxious as I am for your presence because at the time I spoke there before, your name came up for discussion and several spoke in praise of you and your work.
Now I have another request to make, Rose. Edwin Markham, the Poet, helped me in my fight in the Child Labor and Compulsory Education Laws. He is a wonderful and brilliant man and I am anxious to meet him. He invited me to be a guest in his home when I was in New York two years ago, but on account of my illness I was afraid to breathe the damp weather as he lived then at Staten Island. I understand he has since moved. At all events, I do not know his address and I am asking you to telephone him and see if he cannot arrange to be at that Twilight Club meeting. I imagine it would be very easy for him to secure an invitation and probably he is already a member. I do not know what arrangements will be made for me as to entertainment but if Mr. and Mars. Markham would still like to entertain me, I should prefer going to them than to any other place in New York City.
Sincerely and hurriedly,
Kate Barnard
