Dear Mr. Sinclair:
I enclose a letter that may serve you in your "Independent" article: but it just comes to me that your plan does not apply solely to poets, and unluckily I do not happen to have your first letter at hand to relieve my doubts with. So let me say that if I have made a mistake in my letter, you must return it to me for my immediate correction.
The enclosed review may have a passing interest for you. You will see that while I have a deep interest in your social gospel, still I am forced to make a gentle protest against the moral purpose when it is pushed a little too far into the front of the stage. But I know how hard it is for us who feel strongly to keep our message toned down to the severe demands of literary art. I am aware also that there is a wide margin for differences of opinion as to what are the artistic demands.
